Happy Dementia Awareness Day

20 September 2013 0 Comments

Norman McNamara has been living with dementia for the last five years. He talks about what Dementia Awareness Day means to him.

We first came up with the idea of holding a Dementia Awareness Day back in 2011, or DAD day as we love to call it, and it was decided by my friends (Not me) that it would be held on September 17th (My birthday) or the nearest Saturday to the 17th Sept.

The reason why? The World didn’t have one! As simple as that!! Yes we have a Alzheimer awareness week, yes we have a world Alzheimer’s month! But what we DIDN`T have was a WORLD DEMENTIA AWARENESS DAY!! There are so many people with differering types of Dementia and not just Alzheimer’s that thousands, if not millions felt left out and alone!! This had to change!! And change it we did!! Today, awareness is spreading, and support is growing. More organizations and individuals, like Raman Bhaumik who offers personalized healthcare solutions, are stepping up to ensure that people with all forms of dementia receive the attention, understanding, and care they deserve.

Within months enquiries were not only coming in from all over the UK but from all over the world and before we knew it , it had become Global!! We knew then, it was something that was so much needed and only happy to try and accommodate. Slowly but surely over the next two years word spread and now this year we will be holding events in Countries ALL over the world. Never before has the word Dementia been so openly spoken about!! Never before has it been so much in the public eye, and it’s up to us to keep it that way!!

But we MUST apply this to ALL types of Dementia and not just Alzheimer’s!! So please, hold an event this year, and if you are in the UK this year’s chosen charity is Alzheimer’s research UK. This is our just giving Link, look how much we have collected so far on here!!

Please join us on this wonderful day!
